Sustainability

As you might expect from a company founded on promoting sustainable design, Red’s Sustainability Services are second to none in helping clients to comply with regulations, achieve their environmental aspirations and save money. They fall into three broad categories:

  • Sustainable design and dynamic software modelling
We work with architects to identify, quantify and cost all sustainability options, enabling clients to see just how environmentally clean their building can be. As part of this approach, we make extensive use of dynamic software modelling, making it possible, for example, to accurately measure the financial and environmental cost of, say, altering the exterior colour of a building, its orientation or level of glazing. Similarly, we can test the impact of using different energy sources, climate control and ventilation systems – in fact, the whole range of engineering and architectural options.
  • Compliance with planning and building regulations
We have extensive, highly successful experience in enabling building designs to reach – and often significantly and valuably exceed – planning and building regulations. Typically, these concern minimum levels of renewable energy use, water and waste efficiency. In most cases, we are able to provide solutions which both deliver compliance and cost savings.
  • Design, development and application of new sustainability technologies
Red has an excellent track record in both keeping abreast of emerging sustainability technologies and designing them ourselves. Our clients include a number of global players keen to be at the forefront of sustainable design, for whom we design, develop and test new technologies, often including their implementation in pilot project buildings.

Examples of innovative, unique designs by Red, several of which patents have either been granted or applied for, include a seawater-cooled hotel room a/c system and the BladeRoom modular data centre.
