CEng MIMechE ATD
Chartered with the IMechE and an Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) with the Uptime Institute, James has over 15 years’ experience working in the building services industry, most extensively in data centres. James has worked on many hyperscale data centre farms as well as small scale and bespoke facilities. James has designed several facilities all over the EMEA region, ranging from the extreme cold of the Nordics to the extreme heat of the Middle East and the harsh corrosivity levels of Southern Africa.
Earlier on in his career, James undertook a resident engineer role on a hyperscale data centre, imbedding himself in the day to day decision making process on site and collaborating directly with the site team, especially the client, commissioning agents and main contractor. James has good working knowledge of a number of cooling solutions having designed sea water cooling, direct and indirect air systems along with smaller scale PCW CRAC type arrangements, adapting the cooling solution based on the particular site restrictions and client requirements.
In his capacity of Regional Director at RED, James is responsible for leading multidisciplinary design teams, including outside CSA consultants, and successfully delivering projects in the critical systems sector. James is in charge of undertaking QA audits of projects in the RED London office and also has a large hand in the mechanical sector standards group, ensuring RED’s documentation is up to date and follows the relevant codes and best practice.
