Datai Hotel & Resort in Malaysia was awarded “Interior of the Year” at this year’s Prix Versailles - World Architecture and Design Awards which took place on 12 September at UNESCO in Paris.
The Prix recognises the most remarkable structures, in terms of both interior and exterior and is associated with Versailles symbolising beauty and elegance. Among 1000 projects submitted by operators and owners, one "Prix" and two "Special Prizes" (interior and exterior) are awarded in each six regions. Datai was awarded the Special Prize Interior Award for the Asia region.
Working together with the client’s architect D.L.2.A, RED provided the infrastructure and MEP services design for the refurbishment and upgrade of this 9-hectare beachfront luxury resort located on Langkawi, overlooking Datai Bay in the South Eastern Ekas Peninsula.
The resort is a high-end luxury property of international standard and has facilities including beach club and villas, spa and tennis courts. The project was designed with sustainable features in mind, minimising the environmental impact and to capitalise on the seasonal winds and rainfall. A number of sustainable design initiatives were implemented such as water conservation, as well as ESD consultation to achieve a low energy and sustainable development.
