RED is celebrating Black History Month!

An event intended to recognise the contribution and achievements of those with African or Caribbean heritage. Black History month is also an opportunity for people to learn more about the effects of racism and how to challenge negative stereotypes.

Black contributions to the area of Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is wide and varied, both in the past and currently. Contributions span the areas of medicine, aerospace, electronics, computer science, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.  Among the important pioneers are Elijah McCoy (1843-1979), Granville T Woods, Garret Morgan (1877-1863), Otis Boykin (1920-1982), James West (b. 1931), George Carruthers, Gerald Lawson (1940 – 2011), Lila A. Abron (b. 1945), Shirley Jackson (b.1945), Mark Dean (b.1957) and many more.

The group meets on a regular basis to explore initiatives, fresh ideas and approaches and be a catalyst for all forms of inclusion within the business.

Our aims are to support, empower and celebrate difference within our workplace through an environment of unity, inclusion, equal opportunity and respect for all and also to acknowledge that diversity and difference is a part of who we are as a business and to encourage a wide range of perspectives, ideas and styles of working from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
