RED shortlisted for CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2011

Red Engineering Design is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted for the CIBSE Building Performance Awards ( in both categories entered: Building Services Consultancy of the Year and New Build Project of the Year, for Capgemini’s Merlin datacentre.

The CIBSE Building Performance Awards seek to recognise, reward and celebrate the best performance in innovation and good practice across the building services sector.

During one of the worst recessions on record, RED enjoyed growth in new business and the number of engineers employed. This was achieved thanks to a great people with a commitment to low energy design, industry-leading expertise in making green technology reliable and economic, and the willingness of clients to take radical steps in the pursuit of creating environmentally responsible buildings.

During the year RED has continued to gain new clients in the UK and overseas, allowing the company to grow out of the recession having made no redundancies amongst its professional engineers. The company is continuing recruitment of both graduate and executive staff.

RED’s entry for New Build Project of the Year was Capgemini’s Merlin datacentre in Swindon, for which RED designed the M&E utilising BladeRoom, resulting in the most flexible, energy-efficient datacentre in the world. At least 90% of Merlin is reusable or recyclable. At its current capacity, Merlin is saving 3,950 tonnes CO2 emissions per year. If all existing data centres were as efficient as Merlin, the CO2 reduction would equal the combined transport emissions (road, rail, shipping, aviation) of the whole of the UK and France.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony to take place on 9 February 2011.
