We are proud to announce that Dr Mohammad Royapoor, Head of R&D at RED, has been nominated for the DCS Emerging Talent Award. This recognition highlights the significant impact he has made within the Data Centre industry in a remarkably short period of time.
Expertise and Industry Leadership
Mohammad brings a unique combination of academic and industry expertise. With a PhD in data-driven and physics-based modelling of complex energy systems and over 18 years working across research, design and master planning of complex buildings, campuses and HVAC systems, his experience enables him to translate advanced research into practical, scalable solutions.
He has also led multidisciplinary teams of mechanical, electrical and environmental engineers, delivering services design, CFD analysis and multi-objective optimisation to challenging projects with international partners in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Impact at RED
As Head of R&D, Mohammad leads the delivery of electrical, mechanical, sustainability and market-focused research projects across RED. His current work includes developing new reference designs for high density AI cabinets, advancing modularised design approaches and preparing Data Centres for SMR integration.
Since moving into Data Centre-focused work, he has applied this deep technical expertise to accelerate progress in energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and system resilience - supporting the industry as it evolves to meet the demands of ultra-high-density AI infrastructure. His contributions span low-carbon energy systems, microgrids, and next-generation power and cooling solutions for AI-driven environments, while also supporting wider industry initiatives and knowledge-sharing.
Alongside his technical leadership, Mohammad is committed to developing future talent in the industry as he mentors engineers and collaborates with academic partners on research into AI-driven power system design.
Being nominated for this award is an honour, but it reflects the support and collaboration of the people I work with every day.
