Our Journey Through the Years
For two decades, RED has been at the forefront of engineering innovation. Since our inception in 2004, we have evolved into a leading force, shaping the built environment with our sustainable and high-performance solutions all over the world.
Humble beginnings
In 2004, RED was founded by a small team in Oxford with a mission to elevate engineering design. We specialised in maximising sustainability in building design, working on key projects in the UK, and solidifying RED’s roots in the Data Centre and Building Services industry.
From our humble beginnings, we have grown exponentially, fuelled by the passion and talent of our people joined in a common goal.
Today, we’re thankful for our directors, engineers, partners, group and everyone who makes RED a market leader in sustainable design.
OUR PROGRESS
For 20 years, we've empowered innovations through exceptional engineering design, spearheading the journey toward zero-carbon solutions.
Our commitment to sustainability has made us a key player in the Data Centre and Building Services sectors, enabling clients to realise ambitious visions for eco-friendly built environments. As we celebrate 20 years of progress, we remain focused on innovation and leadership, consistently driving the industry toward a sustainable and brighter future.

the future of red
energy transition
RED Engineering Design’s energy transition sector is a new but fast-expanding section of the business where we leverage off our own and ENGIE’s R&D departments to bring low/zero Carbon and circular economy solutions to market, converting our innovation into real-life projects. Focusing on roadmaps to zero carbon, zero water and zero waste, we future-proof our engineering designs to allow for the incorporation of new technologies and green fuels as they become available. Our extensive modelling capabilities allow us to optimise the selection of technologies prior to the design stage, to provide the highest possible efficiencies and lowest operating costs and environmental impact versus client requirements.
New technologies
At RED Engineering Design, we utilise advanced engineering software and are exploring AI models from leading universities to optimise microgrids, with plans to implement AI-based solutions by 2025. Our team is also focused on innovative technologies in R&D, particularly in the areas of alternative fuels, hydrogen combustion, and coolant distribution systems for AI-ready data centres. Through these advancements, we strive to enhance project outcomes and support our clients in achieving their sustainability goals, contributing to a greener future.
Our people
At RED Engineering Design, our employees are vital to our success. Our graduate schemes provide recent graduates with hands-on experience in engineering design, enhancing their skills through diverse projects and specialist training. We prioritise employee wellbeing through our RED wellness initiative, which includes flexible work arrangements, mental health support, and access to an employee assistance programme.
