We are delighted to share that Maira Bana, Head of Computational Engineering at RED, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to diversity in engineering, as part of the King’s 2025 New Year Honours.
This prestigious award recognises individuals who have made a significant difference to their communities and industries. Maira’s long-standing commitment to improving diversity, equity and inclusion within engineering - both at RED and across the wider sector - makes her a standout and truly deserving recipient.
The medal ceremony took place at the Tower of London on 21 November 2025, where honours were presented by Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, to 45 recipients acknowledged for their positive impact and public service.
Maira’s Contribution to RED’s IDEA Network
Within RED, Maira is an active and valued member of our IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility) Network, contributing directly to initiatives that strengthen equity, representation and support across the business.
As part of Women in RED, she helps create a culture of visibility and empowerment for colleagues, participating in internal workshops, mentoring sessions and talent-development activities. She also plays an important role in RED’s STEM outreach, regularly representing the business at fairs, community events and industry panels - championing future engineers and promoting broader representation in the profession.
Her dedication to leading thought leadership topics at major industry events continues to strengthen RED’s voice in the sector and inspires others to pursue engineering with confidence.
