PowerEX Live brings together leaders from across the energy and digital infrastructure sectors to discuss how rapid change in the UK energy system is reshaping the future of Data Centres. With growing demand, tightening grid constraints and increasing pressure to decarbonise, the sector is seeking power solutions that are both resilient today and future-proof for tomorrow.
RED’s Head of Energy, Phil Reid, will share how smart microgrids are becoming central to the sector’s transition. With decades of global experience in complex energy systems, Phil will outline how microgrids allow Data Centres to integrate renewables, storage and flexible generation without compromising the high levels of resilience mission-critical facilities demand. He will also explore how these systems deliver the flexibility, scalability and operational optimisation needed to thrive in a fast-changing energy landscape.
Phil leads RED’s Energy Transition work, delivering decentralised and low-carbon power strategies for Data Centres in collaboration with Tractebel and ENGIE. His perspective combines practical engineering, commercial insight and whole-system thinking - providing a grounded view of how operators can navigate a fast-changing energy environment.
Session: The Advent of Microgrids for Data Centre Power
Date: 11 December 2025
Location: Park Plaza, London
As the energy system continues to evolve, microgrids are becoming a practical and powerful approach to delivering resilient, low-carbon power for digital infrastructure. In this session, Phil will explore how intelligent coordination of supply, storage and on-site generation can reduce grid dependence, unlock new capacity, and create future-proofed power architectures ready for the demands of AI-driven growth.
