We are proud to announce that Iain MacDougall, Director at RED, has been appointed to techUK’s Data Centres Council for the 2026–2028 term.

Iain leads Sustainability & Climate Change at RED, driving high-impact strategies for environmental performance, certification, carbon reduction and resilience across complex buildings worldwide. This appointment reflects Iain’s years of experience in the Data Centre sector and specifically his deep understanding of the sustainable technical solutions the sector demands. His expertise reinforces RED’s commitment to shaping a resilient, efficient and future-ready digital infrastructure sector.

As the leadership body for techUK’s Data Centres Programme, the council plays a critical role in driving industry direction. Its responsibilities include:

  • Setting strategic priorities for the Data Centres Programme and guiding associated working groups.
  • Defining policy responses to emerging challenges, informed by the wider membership.
  • Providing focus and clarity across key policy areas and acting as the primary interface with high-profile stakeholders.
  • Representing the interests of the broader industry, ensuring member perspectives are reflected in national dialogue.

Iain’s election strengthens RED’s voice within the UK Data Centre community and reinforces our commitment to advancing sustainable, high-performance engineering across the sector.

I am grateful to all those who voted for me to join the techUK Data Centres Council. I hope the trust shown in me and by extension RED, will be repaid and that I am able to furnish the council with the technical expertise to drive the sector forward. The agenda for 2026 is already full of challenges and great opportunities. I am very much looking forward to getting started! Iain MacDougall, Director and Head of Sustainability at RED.
