Projects

Oaklands College

Oakland College has embarked on a wide-scale redevelopment of the Smallford Campus. The scope incorporates; new student accommodation, teaching blocks, library and specialist buildings for construction & engineering and sports pavilion. This major investment has presented an opportunity for the complete transformation of the ICT systems and services to support a new generation of students and academic syllabus.

RED ICT led a project stakeholder workshop programme that informed a strategy review and report, the main recommendations include:

  • Investment in the ICT infrastructure in parallel with campus redevelopment so that all new buildings can be economically connected to the campus network.
  • Development of a single network that supports all teaching, learning and administrative requirements as well as building management CCTV and access control.
  • Plan move to cloud based applications as soon as dual resilient connections to the campus become economically viable.
  • Enable staff and students to access the college network remotely from home or on campus using their own device (e.g. a smart phone)

RED ICT was retained to develop detailed design specifications for each individual building aligned with the overall construction programme, scope includes; SCS & active network design, AV solution design, Wi Fi specification.

MEP requirements for ICT equipment, MER/SER layout, cabinets and containment, telecommunication intake/PoE.
